Volkswagen stepped onto the Indian soil in the year 2007 with the Passat. But the German car company really came into the limelight when it brought out the Polo in 2009. It was the only small car from Volkswagen in the country and it proved pretty a good seller for the company. Five years later now in July 2014, the car gets a much awaited facelift with many technical as well as mechanical improvements.
VW Polo has always been a smart looking hatch and the recent improvements have just been like an extra icing on the cake. The changes are evident on the front grille and rear bumper, headlamps and fog lamps and also on the 15 inch 10 spoke alloy wheels. The noticeable change on the inside is on the steering wheel. It is a flat bottomed wheel now wrapped in leather and with controls on both side. There is more chrome detailing on the dashboard and other interior trims. The facelift also gets new fabric upholstery and many other comfort features. Another impressive move by the German carmaker is the inclusion of dual front airbags and ABS across all trimsand features like electronic stability programme and hill hold function in the automatic ones.
Volkswagen Polo facelift on road price in india in which base variant is available at a price of Rs 4.99 lakhs. Both VW Polo TSI and TDI are priced at Rs 7.99 lakhs, ex-showroom New Delhi. The GTs comes only in the top trim level, which makes them quite an expensive option.
The significant change is however under the hood. The VW Polo will now be available with the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines. The power and torque figures for the petrol unit now have gone up to 88.8 bhp and 230 Nm respectively. The same for the diesel engine are103.6 bhp and 250 Nm in that order. Both engines are mated to 5-speed transmission with the option of a 7-speed automatic for the petrol one. Though the clutch is a bit on the heavier side, the gear shifts are quick and smooth. The fuel economy figures are fairly impressive with an ARAI certified 20.14 kmpl for the 1.5-litre TDI and 19.91 kmpl for the 1.2 litre Polo GT TDI. The car continues to be well composed at high speeds and the suspension system also works perfect. It gives a firm ride and the handling is just too good. This latest model comes in three trim levels, which are Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
Volkswagen has managed to update the essential bits on the car, which should help it fight its rivals in the car market. The company is now looking forward to expand its market share in the country.
